Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University has a 7246th rank as per the Webometric’s world University ranking. It is ranked 4681 among 11,000 universities in the world by the 4icu world University ranking. Considering the university’s activity for international and state recognition, immense contributions to the growth of national science and education, this university was awarded the National Medical University status on 21st August 2003, on the President’ command.
The Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University was known formerly as Lviv State Medical Institute. In the past, it has been known by many other names like Faculty of Medicine of the Francis I University and Faculty of Medicine of the John Casimir University.
The Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University is one of the biggest and oldest medical academies in Ukraine. The history of Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University can be dated back to the year 1661. On 20th January, 1661, Lviv’s Jesuit Collegium, under the mentorship of Polish King John II Casimir, was granted the academy status. At the time of its inception, this medical college comprised of four departments and was awarded university title. In the year 1773, this university was divided and then the medical department was established, a full blown department for training.
The Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University has various faculties like faculty of postgraduate education, faculty of foreign students, faculty of pharmacy, faculty of dentistry as well as two faculties for general medicine. Presently, this medical academy offers training to nearly 5150 graduate medical students. This includes 887 students from overseas destinations. Since the year 1961, this university is offering pharmaceutical and medical education to international students from America, Asia and Europe. From the year 1997, this university introduced English language programs, particularly for foreign students. The English language programs are popular at this university.
Duration of Courses
To become physician in medicine, you need to complete a strict 6 year curriculum. The degree will lead to Doctor of Medicine. The Doctor of Dentistry includes studying a 5 year learning curriculum. In order to gain the degree of doctorate in Pharmacy, one has to complete 5 years of studies.After completing bachelors, students are given opportunity to go for post graduate degree which ranges from 3-6 years.
